Dave and Robyn turned our backyard from an unused wasteland to an idyllic green space. They used creative and original ideas resulting in a bespoke yard like no other. Nest Gardens embraced my brief for a native, water wise garden with a meandering pathway to an orchard. They sourced a beautiful array of plants and by-products for the garden including sawdust, sleepers and local council mulch. The result is an informal natural looking garden of native plants, grasses and ground covers, creating layers, textures and colours attracting insects and birds. A sawdust pathway meanders through the foliage to reveal an orchard encased by high passionfruit covered walls, leading through fruit trees (many gifted from neighbours) to a back gate recycled from a ‘dunny' door. Love my garden! The clay hillside covered in a mass of weeds is now contoured with beautiful drystone retaining and accessible paths. Their understanding of local rocks and fauna has provided a great base for me to develop and play, giving me a garden I can call my own.

We were recommended Dave at Nest Gardens for some remodelling of our garden, which involved (1) laying recycled bricks and Bermuda Shell limestone slabs to provide a low platform for a large recycled wood bench, (2) installing subsurface retic drip system and (3) re-turfing the lawn.  We presented Dave with our plans for the paved area, which we had carefully drawn to scale. Dave listened and said that he could indeed lay the bricks as we had proposed…but in fact the bench was in the wrong place! And therefore the brick platform would need to be different.  Dave was right.  Our thinking had been mistakenly limited by what had been there previously; our bench is quite a ‘piece’ and Dave saw that it deserved to be centre stage in the corner of the garden, where it can be viewed properly from all directions, and from where the best view would be achieved. Having guided us to a better layout, Dave and his team (Andrea Raffaelli and others) then made an excellent job of the brick and stone-laying (and retic/lawn works) and we are very pleased with the result. We subsequently used Nest Gardens for further works around the garden and again have been very happy with the results.
